Fiberglass Insulation FAQs

Is fiberglass insulation safe?

Yes, fiberglass insulation is safe when handled properly, but inhaling or touching fibers can irritate skin, eyes, and lungs. Protective gear should always be worn during installation, making professional installation a wise choice.

Is fiberglass insulation fireproof?

Fiberglass insulation is naturally fire-resistant, not fireproof. It can withstand high temperatures without melting and helps slow down the spread of flames.

Why is fiberglass a good insulator?

Fiberglass is a good insulator due to its low thermal conductivity, trapping air pockets between fibers to resist heat transfer, making it an effective insulation material.

Can mold grow on fiberglass insulation?

Since fiberglass is made of small particles of glass, it doesn’t provide a food source for mold to grow, so it’s naturally mold resistant. Fiberglass insulation with a paper “facing” does have the potential to develop mold if the paper becomes wet or damp. Ensure proper installation and moisture control to prevent mold growth.
